CYCLING – Cycling is probably the most developed touristic factor in Gorski kotar region and communes Delnice, Fužine, Vrbovsko, Ravna Gora, Brod Moravice, Lokve and Mrkopalj offers an diverse spactar of cycling courses with different lenghts and level of difficulties. Maps with cycling routes are available in every touristic office in place named above (mainly free). Here is an example of map from touristic office iz Fužine. Renting a bike is also available.
CANOEING – Canoeing is very known sport around place called „Brod na Kupi“ in valley of Kupa also called „the valey of buterflyes“ where the river Kupa flows and offer an real pleasure of canoeing on Slovenian-Croatian national border surounded by mountain chains more than 1000 m high. SWIMMING – swimming in highland lakes during the summer is realy a nice feeling, expecially if you don´t like high temperatures and crowded beaches near sea. Near Fužine and Lokve there are several big (Bajer, Lokarsko and Lepenice lakes) and small lakes (Potkoš, Marsovo) on which you can enjoy in pure water and clean environment. Altought highland lakes are interesting, nothing is more beautifull than our Adriatic coast. Whenever you decide to visit coast on Opatija, Crikvenica, Novi Vinodolski or mybe an islands of Krk, Cres, Rab, Lošinj or Pag the sea is great and is known as the most cleanest sea in the World.
HIKING – Here is also very diverse and favorite activity of local inhabitants in Gorski kotar. Peaks of Risnjak, Snježnik or Bjelolasica placed on 1500 m are famous hiking destinations in Gorski kotar but why not visit Učka (near Opatija) or the bigest Croatian mountain with peaks higher than 1700 m placed just few km from sea - Velebit.
NATIONAL PARKS – Closest national park to Croatia open 2010 is NP Risnjak (in which stages 3-5 and partly stage 1 will be organized) famous by diversed flora and fauna. Only 1,5 hour of driveing to the west NP Brijuni is placed on the sea in Istra region. On the east about 1,5 h of driveing is the oldest and the most visited Croatian NP - Plitvička jezera protected by UNESCO. On the south NP north Velebit is the youngest Croatian NP but with highest peaks (higher than 1700 m).
CULTURAL HERITAGE – Since 7th century Croatia have one of most diversed and most beautifull cultural heritage in region. Expecially on coast, in museums you can explore history of Greeks, Romans, and other nations influence in Croatia. Also, some 100 km west in Pula is an great amphiteatre worth visiting.
FISHING – Fishing is possible in lake Bajer or Lepenice near Fužine but only with licence. Licence can be bought in tourist office in Fužine or in souvenir shop near lake.
ORIENTEERING – We will provide you several orienteering maps on continentall or karst terrain. Sprint training maps are also available. Training maps will be possible to buy at event office in sport hall in Delnice.
HORSE RIDING – There is small stable 3 km north-west from Fužine, near place called Vrelo. There you can try to ride a horse with riding instructors in school of riding eve nin forest. Routes around lakes near Fužine are also possible. Phone; +385/091-523-2467.
PAINTBALL – Paintaball terrains are placed near Vrata (in which you have highway exit) on exciting paintball polygon. For more informations you may contact this phone number; +385/051-835-245 or +358/095-807-1196.
PARACHUTE – It is also possibe to try a parachute riding above the Adriatic sea. This kind of sport is developed on our coast cities like Crikvenica or on island of Krk.
TENNIS – Several tennis fields will be available for you in Delnice and in Fužine. For more information please contact local tourist office.
CAVES – Gorski kotar is famous for it´s karst and stony terrains. Beside depresions and deep holes (on maps shown with small black circle) very often karst form are caves. Cave Vrelo near Fužine is about 300 m long and only cave in Europe available for everyone (beacuse it is flat it is posible to aproach also persons in wheels) and the bigest cave in region is the one near Lokve with interisting formations. Entry tickets are available in tourist office sin Fužine and Lokve or near entry of caves.
